Fashion Students: Armani Needs You

Giorgio Armani  has announced that it has partnered with the BFC to launch a competition to find the brightest fashion talent that the UK has on offer, to create a capsule collection for his spring/summer 2018 Emporio Armani line.

Entrances are encouraged from students attending schools that form the BFC Colleges Council network, who must submit designs in their selected category (outerwear, footwear and bags) which "bring the essence of British style to their interpretations of three iconic Emporio Armani signature models". Armani will select the three winners, whose designs will be manufactured and sold in stores around the UK, as well as invite them to spend three months at his Milan HQ to work with the in-house designers to develop their ideas.

"British design schools are among the most interesting in today’s arena," said Armani on the announcement. "They produce unique talents, by encouraging the originality and individuality of each student. I believe that to be successful in fashion, creativity must go hand in hand with a pragmatic and realistic approach; I would like to use this initiative to encourage a dialogue between these two elements, giving the winners a useful opportunity to succeed and move forward in their careers."

Called the New Bond project, it will mark the first time Armani has shown his Emporio line in the capital when Fashion Week arrives in September, as well as the opening of his new Bond Street store. The competition - one of several initiatives aimed at nurturing talent by the British fashion industry - was welcomed by Caroline Rush, CEO of the BFC, who thanked Armani for bringing his idea to the UK.

"We are excited to see such a renowned brand investing in the future of British talent, especially as Armani will be joining the London Fashion Week schedule this September," she said in a statement today. "London is an international city at the heart of our diverse industry; sharing talent, skills and knowledge alongside a strong foundation of high-quality fashion education is the key to continued growth."
