Yanina Couture’s spring / summer 2021 collection saw its namesake designer Yulia Yanina take inspiration from the cultural traditions of the Slavic community. This presentation pays homage to her Russian heritage and acknowledges the rich cultural heritage of Mother Russia, as an aesthetic narrative. In a year filled with physical restrictions, Yulia went back to the foundations of her label’s DNA, inspiring her to authentically capture the detail of the intangible, whilst evoking deep rooted emotions in a most sympathetic manner.

Utilising the prodigious transcendental potencies of Russian costume, an appreciation for the techniques and codes of traditional clothing can be clearly identified through a celebration of the captivating aesthetics of Russian customs and culture. The Yanina Couture woman of spring / summer 2021 is cosmopolitan, with inestimable love and respect for her heritage.

Reimagining the traditional Russian costume as a piece of art allowed its many intricate details and hidden gems to be exposed within the Haute Couture design process. This transforms the garment into a symbolic tale of life - paying homage to ancestors through the use of striking colours, organic shapes and liberatory ornaments in a bid to bequeath profound secrets and merit a deeper understanding of the eminence of Russia’s traditional cultural art.

Yanina Couture’s collection is contemporary, but still engages in deep rooted authenticity. The application of decorative techniques and their meticulous attention to detail delicately expresses the abundance of the romanticism that’s ingrained into the Russian culture of a bygone era.

Yulia Yanina has succinctly mastered the techniques of orthodox embroidery techniques such as Richelieu, Casalguidi and Lunéville techniques to reinforce her brands ‘savoir-faire’ commitment to Haute Couture. The main protagonists within this collection are the Rubakha shirt, the apron and the Sarafan: a garment which symbolizes Slavic femininity, grace, refinement and tenderness. It is recognised as being a cornerstone element of traditional Russian attire and arguably the most whimsical part of formal and informal feminine aesthetic – whatever season of the year it is.
