The Lowdown On Kendall Jenner’s Tequila-Based Side Hustle

Kendall Jenner has been dominating headlines even more than usual of late. First, her micro thong broke the internet. KJ’s lingerie mirror selfie, taken on the set of her photoshoot for sister Kim Kardashian’s shapewear line, Skims, sent fans (and internet conspiracy theorists) wild. Now, the supermodel has announced her unexpected contribution to the Kardashian-Jenner empire – her own brand of tequila.

The name, 818, is an homage to the family’s Calabasas area code. Having deliberately let it fly under the radar for almost four years, Kendall revealed her secret side hustle via Instagram, prompting an outpouring of support from her famous friends and family.

Alongside a carousel of images, including one of Jenner trialling two glasses for herself, she wrote: “For almost 4 years i’ve been on a journey to create the best tasting tequila. after dozens of blind taste tests, trips to our distillery, entering into world tasting competitions anonymously and WINNING ..3.5 years later i think we’ve done it! this is all we’ve been drinking for the last year and i can’t wait for everyone else to get their hands on this to enjoy it as much as we do! @drink818 coming soon [sic].”

Jenner has mastered three types of tequila – reposado, blanco and añejo – and without her public involvement, 818 has already scooped awards in the alcohol world, including the 2020 World’s Best Reposado title from the World Tequila Awards, the Chairman’s Trophy at the Ultimate Spirits Challenge and the Platinum Award at the SIP Awards. One of the photos in Kendall’s recent post was a screenshot of a judge’s comment from one of the competitions, which read: “We don’t know what it looks like, who makes it, or how to get our hands on a bottle,” and continued: “We hope a bottle of this stuff will make its way stateside soon”.

The supermodel hasn’t yet hinted at a launch date or pricing, but Casamigos founder George Clooney should note that Kendall is coming for his customers.
