Edward Enninful Accepts The Editors’ Editor Award At The BSME Awards

Last night at the British Society of Magazine Editors Awards in London, British Vogue editor-in-chief and newly appointed European editorial director of Vogue Edward Enninful OBE was honoured with the Editors’ Editor Award. The prestigious BSME Awards was held virtually for the first time in history yet most of the media industry dialled in to attend the ceremony. Clara Amfo, BBC Radio 1 DJ and one of the remarkable activists that graced British Vogue’s September issue, Activism Now, hosted the event.

The Editors’ Editor of the Year Award recognises extraordinary individuals for their dedication and outstanding editorial contribution to magazines. The nominees and winners are voted on entirely by their peers.

2020 marked an important year for the media industry as it navigated the impact of the coronavirus pandemic and a third national lockdown. British Vogue editor-in-chief Edward Enninful touched upon a year of “great change and even greater learnings,” as well as the incredible challenges the industry has faced. He said, “We are still standing together in solidarity with the recognition that change needs to happen and we must continue to move forward.”

“I am honoured to accept the Editors’ Editor Award. 2020 has been a year of great change and even greater learnings. Our industry has faced incredible challenges and yet we are still standing together in solidarity and with the recognition that change needs to happen and we must continue to move forward. I want British Vogue to impact people positively and encourage inclusivity to be the reason someone feels welcome, seen and supported. I want the magazine to show young people the diversity of beauty that exists out there by putting it in print. I wouldn’t be here today without your support firstly, my brilliant team at British Vogue, my mentor Jonathan Newhouse and my partner Alec Maxwell. Thank you very much again.”
