Vogue’s creative team enlisted director Alana O’Herlihy, a friend of Hadid’s, as well as stylist Gabriella Karefa-Johnson to bring the project to life. For more than two months Adler and O’Herlihy worked with a team of 3-D artists spanning the globe, including Carol Civre, who oversaw the full 3-D-ification of Hadid’s world; Timo Rusall, who worked to render the garments; and Wan, who was responsible for creating the accessories.
The model grabs her money—aka her Gigi cache—clicks her red ballet flats, and heads to the grocery store for a supermarket-sweep moment. She must score all the items on her shopping list to make a spicy vodka pasta. Can she do it in time? Why, yes! And she does it in full Celine, shimmying and shaking down the aisles.
Level complete and a new outfit unlocked. Now Gigi receives the power of telekinesis and is transported to her kitchen. And how chic! No apron needed as she wears a curve-skimming dress by Christopher John Rogers to work her nimble magic, creating her mouthwatering bowl of saucy carbs. Looks and tastes just like a dream.
Dinner has been served and Gigi gets a bonus power: superstrength. Our gal turns into a glamazon of Godzilla-like proportions. This challenge is tricky. Ms. Hadid is tasked to walk to work through a hustling and bustling city in her supersized form. She takes this all in stride, swishing and swaying while dressed in a pink gown by Noir Kei Ninomiya, with a train of hair flowing from under her Eric Javits headpiece.
We’re going back in time at the stables, where we see Gigi as a horse girl with a penchant for Chanel short suits and bijoux. Her Petrie riding boots aren’t even in stirrups, and this extraordinary model is able to sip tea while perched on the back of a galloping white horse. There’s even time to stop and smell the roses.
The final level has the most extreme power of them all: flight. In order to reach a pot of gold, Gigi floats across the cosmic heavens, propelled by the air filling up her JW Anderson top, along with a Gucci bag on her arm. After a quick touchdown to earth—in Coach sandals—the prize is none other than her very own Vogue cover.
