Chanel To Stage Its Cruise Show Outside Of Paris For The First Time In 3 Years

Chanel is taking its Cruise 2021 collection – the second resort line designed by Karl Lagerfeld’s successor Virginie Viard – to Capri on 7 May 2020. It is the first time the fashion house has presented its holiday-focused collections outside of Paris since 2016. For the last three years, it has shown in the French capital in solidarity after the 2015 terrorist attacks.

“We are very happy to go to Italy, and even more so to go to Capri,” Bruno Pavlovsky, president of fashion at Chanel, told WWD. “It’s a very inspiring place, very inspiring for Virginie Viard. We have a lovely cruise show in the works.”

The brand expanded on the allure of the Italian isle off the bay of Naples in a separate statement: “From the 1920s, Gabrielle Chanel offered her clients lightweight and comfortable designs for yachting, coastal resorts, spa towns and other various sunny destinations such as the riviera and the lido beaches of Venice.” This summer alone, Kylie and Kris Jenner, Chrissy Teigen, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Camila Morrone holidayed on yachts off Capri’s shorelines.

A jewel in the fashion week calendar, Chanel has taken its cruise collections on tour since 2000, when Lagerfeld invited fashion’s elite and top tier clients to far-flung destinations including Cuba, Singapore, St Tropez and Venice. “For us, this remains an exceptional moment to express a real collection, with true creativity and a real point of view that Chanel wants to incarnate today,” said Pavlovsky.
