“Happy 5th birthday to my real-life princess, Her #Majesty,” Rihanna captioned an Instagram post of her holding Majesty some years ago wearing a Gucci cap. “Aunty loves everything about you. My lil oxtail!” The singer journeyed to New York to celebrate with her extended family after holidaying with Hassan Jameel on the Amalfi Coast, where paparazzi photographed her boarding a boat in Nerano wearing Zimmermann.
RiRi’s penchant for emerging labels has been bolstered by her stylist and collaborator Jahleel Weaver, who took over the role from Mel Ottenberg when her Fenty empire began expanding. Now a bona fide member of Rihanna’s inner circle dubbed #TheCorp, Weaver is also junior creative director across all Fenty brands.
Back to Quetsche, the brainchild of Chinese designer Li Yang, who cut his teeth at Dior, Maison Margiela and Lanvin. He founded his label in September 2014 with a mission to manipulate materials in a way fashion hadn’t seen before. All his layered, distorted pieces are created in his family’s atelier in China, and are currently stocked on Selfridges and Farfetch.
Upon seeing the popstar wearing his wares, Yang reposted @badgalriri’s Instagram post with the message “queen knows best” across it. Expect his near 2,000 follower count to start growing as the latest buzzy addition to Rihanna’s wardrobe blows up. After a single outing, Quetsche has become a name to watch.
