J Lo Shuts Down Saturday Night Live In Versace

It’s no secret that J Lo is having a seriously good year. There was her critically acclaimed role as a stripper in Hustlers; the 50th birthday party to end all 50th birthday parties in Miami; confirmation that she would headline the Superbowl Halftime Show with Shakira; her engagement to long-term boyfriend, New York Yankee Alex Rodriguez; and a sold-our world tour appropriately named “It’s My Party”. That’s all before mentioning her triumphant appearance at Versace’s spring/summer 2020 show, where she stormed the catwalk in the jungle-print green dress that famously inspired the launch of Google Images 20 years ago.

That same dress made a surprise appearance on Saturday Night Live last night. For her traditional opening monologue as SNL’s host, J Lo wore a classic tuxedo, simply accessorised with a Carrie Bradshaw-esque corsage. After summarising her many triumphs in 2019, from getting a “lap dance from [Hustlers co-star] Cardi B” to her “fourth degree slay” on the Met Gala’s red carpet in a shimmering custom gown, she momentarily turned serious. “What I really want to say to everyone watching out there is: the best is yet to come. People try to write you off. It’s all B.S. None of us have a shelf life. I mean, seriously, look at me. They tried to count me out so many times, but I’m still here.”

Cue Lopez doing a celebratory performance – featuring some truly impressive high kicks – with the Radio City Rockettes, singing “Santa Clause Is Coming To Town” all the while. As for the grand finale? The 50 year old momentarily disappeared behind her back-up dancers, reappearing in the gown that launched a thousand image searches (and that she wore for a previous appearance on SNL way back in 2001). With Lopez tipped for both Golden Globe and Oscar nominations for her performance in Hustlers, expect to see plenty more iconic fashion moments from Jenny from the block in the near future.
