Rihanna Swaps Fenty For Vintage In '90s John Galliano

2019 has seen a wave of beautiful vintage dresses appearing on the red carpet. Remember Gwyneth Paltrow’s Valentino gown from 1963 at the Emmy Awards? Now, Rihanna has joined the celebrity cohort championing repeat wears and vintage gems. At the Queen & Slim premiere in LA, the business mogul wore a black satin kimono evening coat from John Galliano’s spring/summer 1995 collection.

Held at the TCL Chinese Theatre in Hollywood, RiRi – who has favoured head-to-toe Fenty for her red carpet appearances of late – paired the Japanese-inspired piece with layered monochrome necklaces studded with diamonds. The final touch? Black strappy heels and a satin chain bag. Like the Duchess of Sussex and Amal Clooney before her, Rihanna sourced her archive look through London boutique William Vintage. And it was a welcome move, reminding us of Galliano’s 1995 show filled with retro cars and tailored skirt suits, signature bias-cut slip dresses, and Madonna and Johnny Depp sitting front row.
