From Givenchy To Versace, Elizabeth Taylor’s Iconic Wardrobe Goes Up For Auction

From opulent jewels to embellished fashion, Elizabeth Taylor cemented her status as a style icon thanks, in part, to her love for decadence. Along with her passion for a jet-set lifestyle and diamonds, Taylor possessed an incredible wardrobe as she diligently kept everything. Now, items from her prized collection are set to be auctioned in December 2019.

“Elizabeth Taylor was one of the world’s greatest fashion icons. This auction will represent some of her most important outfits created by some of the most famous and collectible designers,” Darren Julien, president and CEO of Julien’s Auctions, told Vogue exclusively. “She saved everything which makes this auction unparalleled to most auctions in the world of fashion and Hollywood.”

Held at Julien’s Auctions in California on December 6 to 8, the auction will see several of Taylor’s possessions – including fine art, a Versace leather jacket and Cartier bracelets – go up for auction. One stand-out item, which will surely gain a lot of interest from collectors, is the Edith Head pale blue gown that Taylor wore to the 1974 premiere of That’s Entertainment, estimated at $4,000 to $6,000 (and it’s in pristine condition). “The House of Taylor has immaculately preserved and documented this collection making it one of the most important collections to come to auction in recent years,” Julien continued.

Fans will also remember the Givenchy emerald green suit that Taylor wore to an Aids fundraiser in 1987 – complete with her heavily pencilled brows and larger than life hair, of course. It’s estimated to go for $2,000 to $3,000 later this year. All the items are currently part of an exhibition on the Queen Mary 2 while on a transatlantic crossing.
