Rihanna’s First Fenty Collaboration Is All About Big Boss Energy

Newly-crowned Urban Luxe Fashion Award winner Rihanna has announced her first Fenty collaborator: A Sai Ta, the Fashion East graduate behind club-kid favourite ASAI. RiRi let Ta loose on her City Bloom collection for an exclusive 24-piece London capsule that will be available at Selfridges from 11th December.

So, what does this Fenty-ASAI hybrid look like? Ta’s cult “Hot Wok” minidresses and high-neck tops are realised in Fenty’s Iced Rose and Light Matcha colourways, which look as delectable as they sound when layered together. “The alignment feels really symbiotic,” Ta tells Vogue. “I think both brands have a ground-up approach. We draw inspiration from the streets and are for the real girls we know and love. We both target women of all shapes, sizes and backgrounds, who, in some ways, seek to lead. We’re all about championing big boss energy!”

By teaming up with one of London’s rising stars, Rihanna is flexing her credentials as a musician-turned-mogul who is playing the long game. Upon launching with LVMH’s backing in May, she threw the rulebook out the window and chose to release her products in six to eight-week drops, rather than in line with the fashion calendar. In doing this, she keeps her customers on their toes, eagerly awaiting the next chapter of her inclusive Fenty journey. “Rihanna’s at the vanguard of contemporary culture,” agrees Ta. “I really respect what it takes to push the envelope in these increasingly competitive times. She’s been an incredible supporter of my work.”

Followers of Rih’s style will know she has a penchant for Ta’s tie-dye. Most recently, she wore an ASAI Resort 2019 pink top with exposed seams on holiday to Instagram-breaking effect. The video of her striding to the pool – Bottega Veneta Pouch in hand and Fenty shades on – has had over 19 million views. Talk about big boss energy. The Fenty juggernaut shows no signs of slowing down.
