Kaia Gerber Has A Major New Brand Crush

Kaia Gerber’s current uniform consists of stretchy-black leggings and cocoon-like coats for day, and delicate wisps of lace by night. If this sounds at odds with winter’s sub-zero temperatures, it’s because Gerber doesn’t care. She’s crushing hard on Loewe’s exquisitely crafted spring/summer 2020 collection.

Heralded by British Vogue as Jonathan Anderson’s most meticulously honed clothing edit yet, the creative director took “extremes of femininity and luxury to ethereal heights,” as per his show notes. In practice, this meant babydoll dresses, crisp collared shirting, light-as-a-feather tunics, and structured slips in the most delicate chantilly, guipure, and marguerite lace – Gerber has developed a penchant for it all.

The model chose not to walk the Fashion Awards 2019 red carpet, and instead took straight to the stage with Miguel to announce the Menswear Designer of the Year. Her Loewe black leather bralet and white waterfall skirt looked positively angelic and more akin to nighttime attire than eveningwear in a sea of hyper-embellished gowns.

At the Loewe New York flagship opening less than two weeks later, Gerber floated around the three-floor Upper East Side mansion dusted with fake snow wearing a white lace and black satin dress with teeny-tiny buttons and sleeves that ballooned. She was the epitome of loveliness – the purity of the look undercut only by her gelled-down bob and megawatt lashes.

When asked whether Loewe was priming the model for its next campaign, a brand representative said that Anderson and Gerber merely had a mutual admiration for each other. Fashion’s new BFFs come with a serious obsession with craft, and we’re here for it.
