Stefano Pilati kick-started Milan Men's Fashion Week on Saturday morning with his debut for Ermenegildo Zegna. The show - the designer's first since his departure from Yves Saint Laurent in February 2012 - paid homage to Pilati's signature soft, deconstructed tailoring, creating languid, elegant shapes in muted tones.

While patterns were decidedly subtle at Zegna, the majority of Milan's menswear contingent were awash with prints in its many forms - at Prada, we were given vibrant tropical florals and Hawaiian pin-up girls, while at Dolce & Gabbana, shorts, T-shirts and tailoring came covered in photographs historical Italian buildings. Marni chose bold spots as its motif of choice, as Vivienne Westwood and Missoni opted for checks - both large and small, colourful and monochrome.
