Barbara Hulanicki: Women Have Such Boring Wardrobes

Barbara Hulanicki wants us all to ignore fashion trends. The designer and Biba  founder claims that the fashion sense of women has become too predictable.

"There's too much interest in clothes now and it makes women dress less well. I think people are too concerned about what's fashionable," she said. "Women have such boring wardrobes these days because they must follow fashion, they must, they must. But sometimes it's about saying, 'Oh, this would work well with that.'"

Polish-born Hulanicki founded London-based clothes store Biba in the Sixties - a label that has recently been revived. The fashion consultant, who was awarded an OBE in 2012, has just launched a new book, Seamless - a celebration of her life's work.

"It's very difficult to know what to wear now. That's why I always wear black," she told the Daily Mail of her personal style, before revealing that she thought American women had the worst style of all: "They're terrible; they all wear the same thing."
