Helena Bonham Carter will be making Cinderella's every wish come true as she tackles the role of Fairy Godmother in a remake of the Disney classic. The actress - and Vogues current cover girl - will star in the forthcoming film, to be directed by Kenneth Branagh, her publicist confirmed this morning.

The part of Cinderella - initially rumoured to be going to Emma Watson - will be played by British actress Lily James. This marks the first major film role for the 24-year-old, best known for her role as the feisty Lady Rose MacClare in television series Downton Abbey. Cate Blanchett has been cast as the Wicked Stepmother, while Game of Thrones star Richard Madden will take on the role of Prince Charming. The two step sisters will be played by Sophie McShera (another Downton Abbey alumni), and Great Expectations' Holliday Granger.
A release date has not yet been announced, but it's reported that filming will start in London in the autumn.
