Is Band Of Outsiders Closing?

New York label Band Of Outsiders is said to be closing - although its founder, Scott Sternberg, today refused to confirm or deny the rumour.

"Nobody knows anything at this point but me," WWD reports him as saying. "I've been advised not to comment at this time."

It emerged yesterday that the company - which is based in LA and shows in NY - had laid off the majority of its staff, and cancelled all autumn/winter 2015 wholesale orders, Fashionista reports. The brand was "low on funds" a source revealed and had chosen "not to produce its next collection". In addition to this, Jade Lai, owner of Creatures of Comfort boutique, told WWD that the company - which retails in 30 countries worldwide - informed her last week that it would not be producing its autumn/winter 2015 collection.

Sternberg, who founded the company in 2004 as a men's tie and shirting company, has been an outspoken critic of the fashion industry. He complained about the incessant pressure on designers to create and the "dog and pony show" that he felt the fashion industry revolved around.
