H&M Apologises Over Scarf

H&M has apologised for any offence that it may have caused by producing a striped scarf that social-media users have alleged is a copy of a Tallit, the Jewish prayer shawl.

"We are truly sorry if we have offended anyone with this piece. Everyone is welcome at H&M and we never take a religious or political stand," the high-street retailer told us this morning. "Stripes are one of the trends for this season and something we were inspired by. Our intention was never to upset anyone."

The cream and black scarf, that retails at £12.99, remains available to purchase on the brand's website, although a spokesperson also assured i100 that, "The quantities were small and the products are no longer available in some markets."

H&M came under similar fire in 2014 when it produced a menswear vest that featured a skull in the centre of a Star of David. At the time they apologised and took the item off sale.
