Louis Vuitton’s “Unexpected Pairings” Are The New French Girl Uniform

Rounding off the autumn/winter 2020 shows with one of the starriest front rows yet, Louis Vuitton's attendees served up some French-girl style notes off the catwalk at Nicolas Ghesquière’s spectacular show. Leading the chic pack was Léa Seydoux, who returns to screens next month as Bond girl Dr Madeleine Swann in No Time To Die. Naturally, Seydoux’s outfit was as Parisian as it gets: a bouclé suit, tan leather shoulder bag, and white knee-highs – with a flash of bare leg, of course.

Florence Pugh, who shows no sign of slowing down after her recent red carpet run, obeyed the show notes’ diktat of “unexpected pairings”, clashing a biker-style pencil skirt with a glittering camisole and black ankle socks.

Also present and correct was Tomb Raider star Alicia Vikander (who is set to reprise the role of Lara Croft next year) in a bright blue Vuitton hoodie, orange and check mini skirt and cobble-proof chunky white platforms. Meanwhile, February British Vogue cover star Lupita Nyong’o brought the drama in a sage-green midi dress belted at the waist, while her matching heels and bag looked chic in bright white. The sartorial takeaway? “Dressing without protocol”, as Ghesquière put it, is the way forward.
