The Inaugural Franca Fund Gala Will Take Place This November In Doha

There is a new addition to the 2025 gala calendar: this November in Doha, filmmaker and photographer Francesco Carrozzini, Her Excellency Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad Al-Thani, and Anna Wintour, global editorial director of Vogue and chief content officer of Condé Nast, will host the inaugural Franca Fund Gala – a fundraiser to support ongoing preventative genomics research in honour of Carrozzini’s late mother, longtime Italian Vogue editor Franca Sozzani.

“The bond I had with my mom – and her being a single mother for most of her life and then going so early – really made me want to do something to remember her,” Carrozzini tells Vogue, adding that his mother’s diagnosis of a rare lung cancer led him to the work of Harvard medical geneticist Dr Robert E Green, in hopes of finding her a cure. That Sozzani’s illness was too advanced to be successfully treated, and she died in late 2016, prompted Carrozzini to establish The Franca Fund for Preventive Genomics, alongside Green and artist and investor DA Wallch. The initiative supports genetic research to identify, treat and prevent a myriad of diseases – from minor ailments to life-threatening illnesses.

Since launching in 2018 at Harvard Medical School and Mass General Brigham, the fund has raised money through the exhibition and sale of pieces from Sozzani’s wardrobe; a Zara collection of tees and sweatshirts featuring Peter Lindbergh photos; and an awards dinner that has honoured Julianne Moore, Salma Hayek and Iman. Still, Carrozzini has often found himself thinking, “this is not enough, we need something bigger,” he says. Enter the Franca Fund Gala, which was conceived in collaboration with Sheikha Al Mayassa.

“I was looking to do something with someone who understood my mother’s values and what she did for the arts and for fashion,” Carrozzini says, noting that before her death, Sozzani befriended Sheikha Al Mayassa through those shared interests. The chairperson of Qatar Museums and co-chair of Fashion Trust Arabia, Sheikha Al Mayassa “kindly offered to host” the Franca Fund Gala, Carrozzini adds.

The evening will be held in collaboration with the Qatari cultural centre M7, a hub for innovation and entrepreneurship across design, fashion and technology. Additional details regarding the guest list, venue, dress code and entertainment are forthcoming, but the mission, Carrozzini says, is already clear: “To promote research, and to honour someone who so many people thought was special.”

M&S Is Launching Its First Ever Resale Service

In recent years, we‘ve seen a number of brands dabbling in the resale space, from Gucci to Lululemon. The latest to join the ranks? Marks & Spencer. The high street stalwart is partnering with eBay to launch its first resale service, allowing customers to trade in their pre-loved items, which will then be sold on M&S’s dedicated eBay store.

“Resale is a growing market and our new partnership with eBay enables us to work with the leaders in this space, who have an established, trusted platform and customer base, which we can tap into,” Katharine Beacham, M&S head of sustainability in fashion, home and beauty, tells Vogue. The fact that M&S clothing is already hugely popular in the resale space – vintage St Michael is a Vogue editor-favourite – made the partnership a no-brainer. “We’re one of the most searched for brands on eBay, known for our high-quality clothing which is made well and made to last,” Beacham continues.

Customers will be able to send in their pre-loved items via a free local courier service. For every return that includes an M&S-labelled item, shoppers will receive £5 off a £35 spend for fashion, home and beauty products online at the high street retailer, in a bid to incentivise people to trade in the pieces they no longer wear. “Encouraging shoppers to take part helps reduce waste, extend the life of quality garments and make fashion more sustainable – it needs to be simple and rewarding,” Kirsty Keoghan, eBay’s general manager of European fashion, says. “By making participation easy, we can help scale the shift to more sustainable fashion.”

All items that can be resold will be professionally cleaned, repaired and listed by resale partner Reskinned on the M&S X eBay store, while anything else will be repurposed or recycled. So, next time you’re looking to stock up on your M&S staples, it’s easier than ever to check if it’s available to buy second-hand first, before heading to a store.

eBay Is Teaming Up With Erdem And Ahluwalia For Another Pre-Loved Fashion Show

eBay is bringing pre-loved fashion to London and New York again this fashion month – this time with the help of a number of esteemed designers. The resale platform will be holding its Endless Runway shows in both cities, only comprising pre-loved fashion sourced directly from eBay. The edit will include archival designs from Erdem (which happens to be celebrating its 20th anniversary this year) and Ahluwalia in London, as well as Altuzarra, Luar and Kallmeyer in New York.

“We came up with the eBay Endless Runway programme as a way to redefine perception of pre-loved fashion,” Alexis Hoopes, eBay’s VP of global fashion, tells Vogue. “To put pre-owned designer clothing on the runways of fashion month and show how non-new fashion can look just as incredible as new was a significant tipping point. The industry’s response to the inaugural campaign was really positive, and we wanted to explore how we could evolve the programme to invite designers to participate and show their support for circular fashion.”

As well as holding its own runway shows – styled by eBay’s pre-loved style director Amy Bannerman in London and resident stylist Brie Welch in New York – spotlighting pre-loved fashion, each designer will also include archival looks in their spring/summer 2026 presentations, highlighting the lasting relevance of past-season creations. “When some of the world’s leading designers pledge to integrate pre-loved pieces into their latest runway show collections, it’s a statement from fashion’s highest ranks that this is the future,” Hoopes continues. “These partnerships allow us to bring pre-loved pieces into fresh, creative contexts that inspire people to think differently about how they shop.”

Like last year, all items featured in eBay’s Endless Runway shows, which will be livestreamed via its website, will be shoppable from home – but you’ll have to be quick if you want to get your hands on one (or several) of the archival pieces. Mark 10 September (New York) and 18 September (London) in your calendars now.
